There shining in all it's glory, glistening in the sun it was, a beacon through a crowd.
A diamond so sparkly and bright. I took it in my hand and home to keep it safe, wondering what treasures lay beneath. So bright it was like the radient star, mysterious, wild and beautiful.
I'd sit with it in the morning sun gazing at it's glimmer, it's facets, what a mystery it was to me, such secrets kept inside it, every turn a new part that I yearned to know more.
Where did it come from? What is it? This jewel of hope and joy.
As time went on I noticed the diamond lose it's lustre, it seemed to dull somewhat.
I wondered what had happend, it's gloss, it's sheen was fading and no amount of polishing or coaxing could I find that shine return. It's like a darkness had come over it and I knew not what to do.
No amount of care or minding could bring back that sparkle back, instead it was replaced by a darker shade, a shadow had appeared almost like the stone was dying. It saddened me to see it fade. Darkness engulfed the diamond, blacker than the sun, it's energy was lost.
Then one day I came home and the diamond was gone and all that was left was shards of diamond, broken pieces. I barely recognised it, tried gluing back the pieces but it was to no avail.
Finally returning again there was nothing left but sand and it was then I realised it wasn't a diamond at all just glass, plain, fragile and broken, it had tricked me all along, but the lie was almost worth it for the joy it bought in that fleeting of a moment.
